Clean and Decorate: The house and puja area are cleaned, and a beautiful kolam (rangoli) is made.

Prepare the Kalasha: A silver or bronze pot is cleaned, smeared with sandalwood paste, and adorned with a swastika symbol. The Kalasha is covered with a clean cloth and mango leaves, with a coconut on top. A picture of Goddess Lakshmi is placed on the coconut, making the Kalasha symbolic of the goddess.

The puja begins with the worship of Lord Ganesha and continues with recitations of hymns like the ‘Lakshmi Sahasranamam.’ Special sweets, including Pongal in some regions, are prepared and offered as prasad. An aarti is performed, and women tie a yellow thread around their wrists.

Post-Puja Rituals: On the following Saturday, the Kalasha is dismantled, and its contents are sprinkled around the house. The rice used in the puja is mixed with the household rice.
