In the commotion, a constable who was holding Islam’s handcuffs sustained an injury and has been sent for medical treatment.

The prime suspect, Tafazul Islam, was apprehended on Friday and taken by police to the crime scene for a re-creation of the events around 3:30 a.m. During this procedure, Islam reportedly broke free from custody and jumped into a nearby pond. Despite an immediate search effort, his body was recovered about two hours later.

New Delhi : A key accused in the rape case of a minor girl died after trying to escape police custody at this morning, police said. The charged with , identified as Tafujal Islam, was being taken to the location – where the crime reportedly to took place – for a re-creation of the crime scene around 4 am. He again escaped from police custody and jumped into the pond at Dhing in Assam’s Nagaon district.
A search operation was established and his body was recovered by the help of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) after about two hours, the police said.

“After his interrogation, he was taken for crime scene re-creation. When he was taken there, he suddenly tried to pull the stringer from a constable’s grip and flee. He again fell in a nearby pond,” a senior police official said.

One constable was also injured, he said.“We are investigating as to how he was able to flee,” he added.Police said their source as of Tafujal Islam was also going to take the police to another accused’s residence
