GATE 2025:The registration window for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025 will close tomorrow. Interested and eligible candidates who wish to appear in the exam can visit the official GATE 2025 website to complete their registration. candidates can still apply with a late fee until October 7, 2024. The exam is scheduled for February 1, 2, 15 and 16, 2025 for admission to postgraduate engineering programs. GATE 2025 will be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) mode with city centers divided into eight zones. The results will be announced on March 19, 2025.

How to apply for GATE 2025?

Candidates can get the GATE registration link online at the official website. They can go through the steps to know how to fill up the GATE 2024 application form:

  • Step 2: On the homepage click on APPLY NOW tab
  • Step 3: Fill in the personal details, papers, address, exam centre and qualification details

  • Step 5: Complete the payment and submit the form

  • The coloured should be in passport size (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm) in JPEG/JPG format.
  • The file size for the photo should be between 5 KB and 1 MB.
  • The resolution of the image should be between 200 x 260 pixels and 530 x 690 pixels..
  • .The background should be white with no objects or people
  • .Candidates must not wear hats, caps, sunglasses or coloured glasses. Regular eyeglasses for vision correction are okay but there should be no glare on the lenses.

Specifications To Upload Signature

  • The signature must be done with black or dark blue ink, JPEG/JPG format
  • The file size should be between 3 KB and 1 MB.
  • The picture resolution must be between 250 x 80 pixels and 580 x 180 pixels.
  • The ratio for signatures from height to width should be between 1:2.75 and 1:3.75.
  • The signature must cover 70-80% of the image after cropping.
  • The signature of the candidate should match the one uploaded on the exam day.

GATE 2025: Exam Pattern

GATE 2025 will consist of 30 examination papers allowing candidates to choose one or two papers from permissible combinations. The exam will have a duration of 3 hours and GATE scores will be valid for three years from the result announcement date.

Negative Marking

  • For a wrong answer in an MCQ, there will be negative marking
  • For a 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer
  • For a 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer

Documents Required

  • Candidates must upload a pdf file of any of the following valid photo identities (ID): Aadhaar-UID (preferable), Aadhaar Virtual ID, Government issued ID, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID and Driving License.
  • For international candidates ONLY a valid Passport/Government-issued ID/ Driving License will be accepted as the recognized identification document.
  • Candidates who belong to SC or ST category have to upload a valid documentary proof

Negative MarkingFor a wrong answer chosen in an MCQ there will be a negative marking. For 1-mark MCQ 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise for 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer

Important points to remember while choosing both subjects:

  • Candidates must identify which of the two subjects will be his/her primary subject and choose the second subject accordingly.
  • If a new paper combination is added later (correction window) candidates can also pick any combination including new and original paper combinations during the correction window and add a new subject with payment of the requisite fee.
  • If any paper combination is removed later (correction window) the fees for the second paper will be refunded to the candidate.

GATE 2025 Exam Pattern: Type of Questions

GATE exam has 65 questions for 100 marks. Three types of questions are asked in the GATE exam: MCQs, MSQs & NAT. Candidate must check question types with respective marking scheme given below:

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

  • Questions will have 1 or 2 marks in all the GATE question papers.
  • There will be 4 options for each MCQ.
  • Negative marking of 1/3 of the allotted marks will be applicable for MCQs.

Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)

  • Questions will have 1 or 2 marks in all the GATE question papers.
  • There will be 4 options for each MSQ.
  • There will be no negative markings for MSQs.
  • Marks will be given on a proportional correctness basis with respect to other options.

Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions

  • NAT Questions will carry either 1 or 2 marks in all the GATE question papers.
  • There will be no options for each NAT Question.
  • Candidates must write the answer found in terms of real numbers using the virtual keyboard provided during the GATE exam.
  • There will be no negative marking for NAT questions in the GATE exam.

  • Recall:These questions are based on facts, principles formulae or laws of the discipline. The candidate is expected to obtain the answer from the subject memory or most from a short computation.

  • Application:These questions test the candidate applicability of knowledge either through computation or by logical reasoning
  • Analysis and Synthesis:Analytical questions test the candidate applicability to analyze given data with images, diagrams, graphs etc. to produce the answer. A Synthesis question might require the candidate to compare two or more pieces of information. Questions in this category could for example involve the candidate recognizing unstated assumptions or separating useful information from irrelevant information.
