Goa Medical College: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved a significant increase in MBBS seats at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for the academic year 2024-25, bringing the total to 200. State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that GMCH, the largest government hospital in Goa, previously had 150 MBBS seats approved.
In a media statement, Rane described this increase as a major milestone in GMCH mission to enhance medical education and healthcare services. For the academic year 2024-2025, we have received the Letter of Permission from the National Medical Commission to increase our MBBS seats to 200,” he said.
This expansion will significantly boost the capacity of the state-run institution, enabling more students to achieve their goals of becoming skilled medical professionals. Rane also noted that approvals have been granted to increase seats in various postgraduate MD/MS courses. Specifically seats for MD (Radiodiagnosis) will rise from six to seven, MS (General Surgery) from six to 15, MS (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) from six to eight, MD (Pharmacology) from four to six and MD (Pediatrics) from seven to ten.
These increases highlight the government dedication to advancing medical excellence and addressing the growing healthcare demands in the region and beyond. Rane emphasized that Goa Medical College remains committed to nurturing the next generation of medical professionals while providing advanced medical education.
GMC gets NMC nod for MBBS and Postgraduate seat Expansion
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an increase in the intake of MBBS students at Goa Medical College (GMC) to 200 for the 2024-25 academic year. The NMC has sanctioned the expansion of several postgraduate MD/MS courses at GMC. The newly approved seat increases include MD Radiodiagnosis, which will now accommodate 7 students, up from 6; MS General Surgery, with a significant increase from 6 to 15 seats; MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology, now offering 8 seats, up from 6; MD Pharmacology, increasing from 4 to 6 seats and MD Pediatrics, which will see an increase from 7 to 10 seats.
This expansion shows our commitment to foster medical talent and address the growing demand for skilled professionals. Approval of seat increases in various postgraduate MD/MS courses, including Radiodiagnosis, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pharmacology and Paediatrics will enable us to provide more opportunities for aspiring doctors and specialists,” said Rane.
Goa MBBS Admission 2024: Eligibility
Students seeking admissions to MBBS admissions under DOTE Goa, need to qualify for certaineligibilitynorms as mentioned below:
- Admissions are open to Indian nationals, NRI students can apply under a specified quota
- A candidate must have completed minimum age of 17 years on or before 31st December of the academic year for admission
- He/ She must have passed the 12th exam or equivalent of the Goa Board or any other recognized board
- Candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in aggregate of subjects Physics, Chemistry Nand Biology taken together
- There will be a relaxation of 5% in aggregate for the reserved category
- Candidates must also qualify NEET UG exam for the academic year for admissions

Students who fulfill the eligibility criteria prescribed above must download the detailed prospectus along with the application form from the official website or directly from the campus. As per DOTE, admissions are centralized for professional degree colleges. Candidates seeking MBBS admissions must qualify NEET UG entrance test which is conducted annually by NTA.

- The application fee for the General category is INR 1500, for the General EWS category INR 1400 and for another reserved category, the fee is INR 800
- Log on to the NTA website and proceed to the application form
- Fill out every required detail in the space provided

- Pay fees online and proceed toward the final submission
- Print the final confirmation page for future reference
Registration for Goa MBBS Admission 2024
- One needs to buy the prospectus and application form from the center or download them from the official website
- The application fee is INR 1500
- For MBBS, students need to fill out only Form A
- Fill out the required details and pay the fees
- Enclose all the relevant documents along with the filled application form
- Submit the form at the Directorate of Technical Education, Goa or another notified location to collect the acknowledgement card with the registration number
