HCMCT Manipal Hospital For Adult Vaccination
HCMCT Manipal Hospital in Dwarka has teamed up with Pfizer India to create a Centre for Adult Vaccination, marking a major step forward in preventive healthcare in India.
Even though adult vaccination is known to enhance quality of life, 95% of deaths from diseases that vaccines can prevent happen in adults.
In a press release on Thursday, the company announced that the collaboration aims to boost community protection by highlighting the significance of adult vaccinations and tackling diseases that vaccines can prevent.
In India, vaccinations have traditionally focused on childhood immunizations, often neglecting adults. The newly established Centre at HCMCT Manipal Hospital will address this gap by providing extensive vaccination services for adults. The Centre will offer vaccines for diseases such as Pneumococcal disease, Influenza, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), and Hepatitis A and B, among other conditions, to better protect adult health.
Although adult vaccination is a proven method to enhance quality of life, 95% of deaths from vaccine-preventable diseases happen in adults. The Centre will emphasize educating healthcare professionals about the importance of timely adult vaccinations. This is especially crucial for individuals at higher risk due to chronic conditions such as COPD, asthma, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and liver cirrhosis, as well as those with additional risk factors like smoking, pollution exposure, or advanced age.
Dr. Ankita Baidya, Consultant in Infectious Disease at HCMCT Manipal Hospital, emphasized the crucial role of the new Centre, stating, “Vaccine-preventable diseases have a significant impact on both individuals and communities. Adult vaccination is a core element of preventive healthcare, providing a straightforward and effective method to guard against diseases that can be avoided.
This Centre will be pivotal in raising awareness, tackling vaccine hesitancy, and ensuring that essential vaccines are accessible to everyone. By focusing on these areas, the Centre aims to enhance public health infrastructure and promote widespread vaccination. Expanding adult vaccination efforts is essential for reducing the overall burden of disease, protecting vulnerable populations, and working towards achieving herd immunity. This initiative will contribute greatly to improving community health and safeguarding individuals from preventable illnesses.
Viji Varghese, Hospital Director at HCMCT Manipal Hospital, outlined the broader objectives of the new Centre, stating, “Our partnership with Pfizer to establish this Centre for Adult Vaccination represents a significant advancement in public health. By offering specialized adult vaccination services, we are dedicated to enhancing our healthcare system and safeguarding communities from diseases that vaccines can prevent.
This initiative demonstrates our commitment to providing comprehensive care and driving innovation in public health. It marks a major step toward a healthier future, reflecting our ongoing efforts to adapt and improve healthcare practices. Through this Centre, we aim to make a lasting impact on public health by expanding access to essential vaccines and promoting overall community well-being.
Dr. Santosh Taur, Director of Medical Affairs at Pfizer Vaccines, conveyed Pfizer’s strong commitment to the new initiative, stating, “Pfizer is deeply committed to advancing public health through effective vaccination strategies.
Our collaboration with HCMCT Manipal Hospital highlights our dedication to increasing access to adult vaccinations and fortifying the nation’s healthcare infrastructure. This Centre marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to deliver essential information and support informed healthcare decisions related to immunization.
By working together, we aim to improve public health outcomes and ensure that more individuals benefit from vital vaccinations. This partnership reflects our shared goal of enhancing healthcare and making a meaningful difference in the fight against preventable diseases.
The new Centre will emphasize improving patient education and offering counseling to address vaccine-related concerns, showcasing their long-term health benefits. It will include comprehensive training modules and capacity-building initiatives, supported by clear guidelines and protocols for adult vaccination.
This approach aims to enhance understanding and confidence in vaccines, ensuring that patients are well-informed about their importance and benefits. The Centre’s focus on education and support will play a crucial role in promoting effective vaccination practices and improving overall public health.
Pfizer has tied up with five hospitals in India for adult vaccination in the past year
Pfizer India and HCMCT Manipal Hospital have joined forces to create a specialized adult vaccination centre at their Dwarka (New Delhi) location. This new partnership is the second of its kind this month reflecting a growing commitment to enhancing adult vaccination services. The Centre aims to provide targeted immunization services and support public health efforts in the region.
Recently, the multinational company established a similar partnership with Artemis Hospitals and has previously announced collaborations with Yashoda Hospitals, KIMS Hospitals, and Apollo Hospitals over the past year. The newly launched Centre at HCMCT Manipal Hospital will offer a wide range of adult vaccination services.
This Centre will address various vaccine-preventable diseases, including pneumococcal disease, influenza, human papillomavirus (HPV), and Hepatitis A and B, among others. According to a joint statement from Pfizer India and HCMCT Manipal Hospital the Centre aims to provide comprehensive immunization services, enhancing protection and health outcomes for adults.
This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of both organizations to improve public health through expanded access to essential vaccines and to address the growing need for adult vaccination services.
The newly established Centre at HCMCT Manipal Hospital will play a pivotal role in educating healthcare professionals about the critical importance of timely adult vaccinations.
The Centre will focus on informing practitioners about the benefits of vaccinating adults particularly those who are at higher risk due to chronic health conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) asthma, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and liver cirrhosis. In addition to these chronic conditions the Centre will also address the needs of individuals with additional risk factors including those who smoke, are exposed to pollution or are aged 50 years and older.
The initiative aims to ensure that healthcare providers are well-equipped to discuss the advantages of adult vaccinations with their patients, helping them understand how preventive measures can significantly impact their health and well-being. By focusing on these high-risk groups the Centre seeks to improve vaccination rates and overall health outcomes.
Through comprehensive training programs and workshops the Centre will provide healthcare professionals with the latest information and guidelines on adult vaccination. This will help them to better communicate the importance of vaccines and address any concerns or misconceptions that patients may have.
The goal is to foster a proactive approach to healthcare where vaccinations are seen as a vital component of maintaining health and preventing disease, rather than just a childhood concern.
The Centre will also serve as a resource for ongoing support and education, ensuring that healthcare practitioners remain up-to-date with the latest developments and recommendations in adult vaccination.
This commitment to continuous learning and improvement is essential for enhancing the effectiveness of vaccination programs and achieving better public health outcomes.
By concentrating efforts on these key areas, the Centre aims to make a significant impact on public health, reducing the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases and contributing to the overall well-being of the community.
