In a recent episode Amitabh Bachchan discovered that contestant Shalini Sharma had traveled barefoot from Delhi to appear on the show. She shared her difficult experience caring for her younger son, Chinmay, who is around 18 years old and bedridden.
His health is unstable, with no guaranteed recovery. Shalini’s story highlighted her resilience and the challenges she faces daily, making her appearance on the show both inspiring and heart-wrenching.
Shalini Sharma compared her son’s health to that of a one-month-old newborn, reflecting the severity of his condition. Her son, Chinmay, has been suffering since birth from epilepsy seizures, and it took two years for them to receive an accurate diagnosis.
Initially, he endured 30-40 seizures, which were a significant burden on his young life. In 2009, after undergoing surgery for hip dislocation, Chinmay became immobile, adding another layer of difficulty to his already challenging situation.
Shalini poignantly described her son’s suffering, saying, “Uske aankhon ka dard mei nai bayaan kar sakti” (I cannot express the pain he holds in his eyes). Additionally, she revealed that Chinmay was born prematurely and weighed only 1.75 kg, further compounding the hardships they have faced over the years.
Moved by Shalini Sharma’s ordeal, Amitabh Bachchan offered his support, saying, “Aap eske report hume dijiyega. Hum kuch apne doctors se puchenge kya hoh sakta hai esme” (Please give us his reports. I will consult my doctors about what can be done). At the end of the episode, Shalini Sharma walked away with Rs 25 lakh, a significant amount that could help improve her family’s situation.

KBC 16 : Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 Contestant Shalini reveals people asked her to request for ‘mercy killing’ for her physically challenged 18-yr-old son
The latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 featured rollover contestant Dipti Singh from Kolkata, West Bengal,
who realized a lifelong dream by meeting Amitabh Bachchan and taking her place on the iconic hot seat. As she joined the show, Dipti recounted how she had always imagined Big B holding her hand and guiding her to the hot seat making the moment especially memorable for her.
Accompanying her was her husband, who introduced himself as a banker. Amitabh Bachchan smiled at this and commented, “It is a very good designation.” He praised the contestant’s husband while also reflecting on his own illustrious career, noting his continuous reinvention over the years.
Responding with characteristic humility, Big B said, “Sir, yeh jo shabd hain na, hum kayi baar sun chuke hain… jidhar naukri miti hai hum haanth jod lete hain, aisa nahi ke hum jaan bujhke badal rahe hain. Ek jagah naukri band hogayi, toh dhoondhte hain” (Sir, we have heard these words many times.. when one job ends, we simply fold our hands and move on, it’s not that we intentionally change. When one job ends, we seek another).
The game began with Dipti confidently answering the first question for Rs. 20,000: “Who among these is also known as Uma, Haimavati, and Gauri?” Without hesitation, Dipti selected Option D) Goddess Parvati and answered correctly.
She had always dreamed of Amitabh Bachchan praising her throughout the game, imagining him saying, “Dipti ji, aap kamaal khel rahi hain, aap adbhut hain” (Dipti, you are playing brilliantly you are extraordinary). True to her wish Big B graciously fulfilled her dream by complimenting her gameplay, enhancing her experience on the show.
Dipti continued her strong performance quickly moving on to the Rs. 3,20,000 question: “Born to a poet in Varanasi, which playwright wrote under the pen name ‘Rasa’?” She confidently selected Option C) Bharatendu Harishchandra, and her answer was correct.
Following this she took part in the ‘Super Sandook’ segment, where she successfully answered seven questions and won Rs. 70,000. With all her lifelines still available the amount was added to her account. Dipti’s strong performance showcased her knowledge and strategic play, making her journey on the show memorable.
The following question for Rs. 6,40,000 was: “The Blossom Showers of Kerala are associated with the rains that coincide with the blooming of the flowers of which of these plants?” Uncertain of the answer, Dipti decided to use the ‘Audience Poll’ lifeline. Based on the results, she correctly selected Option B) Coffee.
As the episode continued, Dipti gifted Amitabh Bachchan a beautiful rose, saying, “Ye phool main laayi thi apne sapno ke raja ke liye, joh roz mere sapno mein aate hain. Aap mujhe ek dijiye” (I brought this flower for the king of my dreams, who visits me in my dreams every day). Please give me one). Mr. Bachchan, visibly touched by the gesture responded by reciting a poignant shayari from his film Silsila, creating a deeply emotional moment that resonated with everyone present.
As Dipti progressed to the Rs. 12,50,000 question, she encountered the query: “What is the name of the planet-like body believed to have collided with Earth, leading to the formation of the moon?” Unsure of the answer, she used the ‘Video Call a Friend’ lifeline but did not receive helpful guidance.
Deciding to quit the game, she made an educated guess and chose Option D) Theia, which was correct. This left her journey on a high note.
She took home Rs. 6,40,000. In the second Fastest Finger First round, Khushbu Mitry and Shalini Sharma competed against each other.
She is from Delhi and chose to sit barefoot as part of a vow she made. Big B suggested she wear slippers, but she explained that she planned to offer a puja after returning home.
Shalini’s 18-year-old son, Chinmay Sharma, has faced health challenges such as frequent seizures and autism since birth. Deeply faithful, Shalini made her way to the hot seat barefoot as part of a vow for her son.
She hopes to win significant funds to provide Chinmay with the care and support he needs. Touched by Shalini’s story, host Amitabh Bachchan offered his support, urging her to share her son’s medical reports so he could seek ways to help facilitate the necessary treatment.
She revealed that many people had suggested she consider mercy killing for her son. She said, “We don’t know if there are any possibilities for his treatment.” Amitabh Bachchan also asked her to send her son’s medical reports so he could consult with his doctors about potential treatment options.
