The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced the withdrawal of the Letter of Permission (LoP) for the establishment of a new medical college at Dr. YSR Government Medical College Pulivendula, Andhra Pradesh. In an official notification, the NMC stated, “The Letter of Permission issued for the establishment of a new medical college with 50 MBBS seats at Dr. YSR Government Medical College Pulivendula, Andhra Pradesh, for the academic year 2024-25 is hereby withdrawn. This follows the request from the Directorate of Medical Education, Karnataka, which cited the college inability to provide adequate infrastructure facilities for the incoming students due to delays in construction.
Dr. YSR Government Medical College Pulivendula had initially been granted the LoP by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) after an appeal to the First Appeal Committee of the NMC. the concerns about the college readiness to offer the necessary infrastructure led to a reevaluation. The Directorate of Medical Education, Karnataka, highlighted these issues, prompting the NMC to act.
The notification further explains, “Reference is made to letter no. N-22011/21/2024-Assessment Cell/MARB (e-8276336) dated 11-09-2024 from the MARB, which outlines the reasons for this decision. All concerned stakeholders are requested to take note of this withdrawal. The NMC decision underscores the importance of having fully operational infrastructure before granting permissions for new medical institutions.
